A bad day as an entrepreneur feels like failure. No clients knocking at the door and a draining bank account weigh heavy on the heart.
How do we turn that around, or take a moderately successful business to the next level we dream of, where we’re finally stepping away for that Caribbean vacation while someone else drives the rocketship?
I discovered that success for me is part mindset practice, a lot of self-care, strategic collaborations, authentic networking, and a fierce commitment to keeping my thoughts, beliefs, words, and behaviors aligned with my goals, not reality.
If you read that last paragraph, you may think: This is too hard. I don’t know how to do all that.
I’ve wondered so many times if it’s worth the hard work.
Yes, time freedom is worth the hard work of being a successful entrepreneur. So is not having a limit on your income-producing possibilities.
Getting to sit with my daughter who’s home from college because I have the time—worth it.
The ability to squeeze in a road trip for a fundraising event where I get to meet many clients for the first time in person—worth it.
Scheduling the gym when it’s best for me—worth it.
What are your “worth it” moments of being an entrepreneur?
Are you able to care for a loved one because you work for yourself at home? Can you spend more time with friends? Do you love the ability to juggle your schedule for those unexpected life moments?
I do.
And I wouldn’t and couldn’t give it up if I tried. There’s no going back.
So if you know there’s no going back, then why entertain getting a normal job, even for a fleeting moment? Why let the self-sabotaging bullshit in at all? Why let that unhelpful nonsense have any real estate in your brain? Why give it any time of day?
Well, it’s our default and habit, isn’t it?
What if we could have a badassier default? Like one with pure manifesting power?
I love having the time, money, energy, and resources to generously take care of myself and everyone I love.
Best mantra ever.
I love writing my dream life into reality right here on this page.
I love the practice of increasing my frequency and vibration and taking responsibility for training my brain to do that, instead of self-sabotage.
You’re wired to survive, not thrive.
How can we wire to thrive?
The Receiving Mode
My business-building badassery has a soul. It’s alive in me as this kind of practice. It’s my daily determination to receive what I’ve asked for (money, community, resources, inspiration) by the practice of getting into the receiving mode.
I get into that mode by:
- Relaxing
- Journaling
- Meditating
- Laying in the hammock
- Napping
- Listening to sound healing music
- Breathing
- Taking a walk in the woods
- Taking a break from social media
- Connecting with joy, gratitude, and love
- Finding a thought that feels good
- Remembering who I am
- Catching worry quickly and pivoting to love
- Writing thank you notes
What’s your practice of receiving look and feel like?
Or are you pushing yourself to a limit with another social post because when you back away from the business, you start to feel anxious and guilty?
What if the receiving mode worked better than another social post?
Feng Shui for My Business
“Wash your front door. Put a little peppermint oil in that hot, soapy water.”
Yes, this is a thing.
I will forever be grateful to Dana Claudat and her School of Intention for helping me with a Feng Shui practice that creates results.
“A pinch of cinnamon in the corners of your room will activate the energy.”
“What is the signature scent in your home?”
“How’s your money corner feeling?”
All amazing questions. I took each of them (and many more) and began curating an inner and outer environment that honored my soul, and of course, that includes my business. Because my business is a tool through which I get to shine in the world.
If the supposed-tos and shoulds of your business are weighing you down, maybe it’s time to lighten up with alignment.
Aligning with Joy for Business Success
Depending on where you’re at with your bank account and providing for yourself and your family, I’m going to admit, these practices may feel difficult.
When Esther Hicks says something like, “Stop paying attention to the reality in front of you and focus on a better-feeling thought,” it can be frustrating—infuriating even.
But right in the middle of that resistance was where I paused and realized I had a huge opportunity to shift something that would be a game changer.
With awareness, we have a choice to think about anything we want.
Our default to survive is to consider all the possible negative outcomes and protect ourselves from them. The more helpful habit is grabbing for the gratitude in the moment you’re in.
Many times when I’m having the thoughts that aren’t helpful, I’m sitting in the middle of my home, with a fantastic roof over my head and clean water to drink and bathe in. I’ve got heat, air conditioning, and a bed. I am not hungry. The reality of my situation is something I’m deeply grateful for.
The pull to bring in more money and resources to cover the bills pulls you out of this gratitude mindset and into a pit of Hell. It’s a trap of low-vibe negativity that’s tough to climb out of unless you stop the cycle and wake up to the choice you have.
When I first started the publishing business and it was not enough to make ends meet, I knew I couldn’t give up the “normal” job, and I felt stuck. The negative thoughts came in, and I paused them with writing.
I wrote blogs that served my clients. I poured all the information, education, and guidance I could into them to bring myself into my genius zone, where I feel confident, helpful, purposeful, and intentional.
That has been a pivot of mine since the beginning. I write my dream life into reality.
